oil on canvas; 75,5x99,5 cm; Signed lower left: Berény       Róbert Berény was a prominent figure in 20th-century Hungarian fine arts and, as a member of the Nyolcak group, one of the pioneers of modern Hungarian painting. Zebegény occupies a special place in Róbert Berény's oeuvre – not only as a motif, but also as an inner refuge. From the 1930s onwards, the painter spent more and more time here, and the landscapes, light, and tranquility of this town on the banks of the Danube had a profound influence on his art. Escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, he found in Zebegény the peaceful environment that allowed him to develop a more lyrical, meditative style of painting. His landscapes of Zebegény are imprints of harmony with nature and a contemplative creative attitude. Berény's painterly language is clearly evident in these works: they are characterized by balanced compositions, subtle use of color, and restrained yet emotionally rich tones. The painting entitled "Zebegényi hangulat (Áradás után)" (Zebegény Mood (After the Flood) also fits into this series – it captures not only the landscape, but also the inner state experienced in the landscape, thus serving as both a document and a poetic imprint of Berény's Zebegény period.
