István Harasztÿ (1934–2022) – affectionately known in artistic circles as “Édeske” – was one of the most distinctive and internationally recognised figures of Hungarian neo-avant-garde and kinetic art. His works combined technical ingenuity, playful spirit, ironic social commentary, and profound intellectual depth in a way that was truly unique.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Harasztÿ was also a passionate collector and patron. With a sensitive eye and genuine curiosity, he assembled a deeply personal collection grounded in friendship, artistic dialogue, and mutual respect. As such, his collection has become one of the most authentic reflections of progressive post-war Hungarian art.

The 14th Autumn Auction at Bodó Gallery offers a rare opportunity for collectors and art lovers to explore this singular selection – a collection that preserves not only a vibrant artistic era, but also Édeske’s own creative spirit and his close-knit community of peers.

The auction includes works by leading figures such as:
Dóra Maurer, Tamás Konok, Tamás Hencze, Gyula Pauer, Tihamér Gyarmathy, as well as iconic pieces by Harasztÿ István himself.

A highlight of the collection lies in those personal dedications and homage pieces created especially for Harasztÿ by his fellow artists. These works enter into direct dialogue with his art and personality, adding layers of communal, historical, and emotional significance to the aesthetic value of the auction.
