Fragile Balance
Abstract Paintings from the Collections of the Collectors’ Club

“Art knows no compulsion – art is free.” (Kandinsky)

Following the previous joint figurative exhibitions of Bodó Gallery and the Collectors’ Club, this new presentation opens the door to a very different world: the realm of abstraction, which liberates, provokes thought, and offers new interpretations.

Through works selected from the Collectors’ Club’s private collections, the exhibition explores diverse directions of abstract art, highlighting that abstraction is not confined to museum walls, but thrives as a living, dynamic form of expression within private collections—constantly offering new experiences to its viewers.

The exhibited works span a wide spectrum: from geometric and lyrical abstraction (Imre Bak, István Nádler, János Fajó, Tamás Konok, etc.) to gestural painting (Tamás Hencze, Áron Gábor, Krisztina Major, etc.), constructive and conceptual tendencies, and Hungarian traditions of Op Art (Victor Vasarely, András Braun, etc.). The most recent works also include unusual media, collages, and interdisciplinary creations (András Mengyán, Hajnalka Tarr, László Görög).

This latest selection offers a radically new perspective on the well-known tastes of Collectors’ Club members, emphasizing that even collections with a strong figurative preference may feature both classical and groundbreaking abstract works. As Kandinsky’s words remind us, “Art knows no compulsion – art is free.” Collecting, too, knows no boundaries—the free variability of collections presents endless curatorial challenges.
